Processing & Freshness
🦌 Working a carcass
Walk up to a dead animal and use the prompts:
| Prompt | What it does |
|---|---|
| Inspect | Shows the grade and why, before you work it (Config.Processing.inspect) |
| Skin | Takes the pelt and any parts |
| Butcher | Takes the meat |
| Harvest | Tiny animals: everything at once |
You need a knife (Config.Processing.requireKnife, the list is in knives). Work time depends on size, from 3 seconds for tiny game to 9 for large (duration). Carcasses are removed removeCarcass seconds (30) after they're done.
Native skinning: set Config.Processing.nativeSkinning = true to use the game's own skinning (hold E). The pelt is graded and handed over the same way. It's false by default, which uses the prompts.
You can also carry a carcass whole to a vendor and hand it over, or tie it on your horse. See Horse & Wagon.
🧂 Freshness
Meat and pelts spoil over time and sell for less as they go off:
| State | Price |
|---|---|
| Fresh | × 1.0 |
| Aging | × 0.75 |
| Spoiled | × 0.25 |
| What | Keeps for | Config |
|---|---|---|
| Meat (and hearts) | 120 minutes | Config.Freshness.meat |
| Pelts | 360 minutes | Config.Freshness.pelt |
An item starts aging halfway through (aging = 0.5). Freshness is stored on the item's metadata.
🛡️ Preserving
From the Satchel tab of the journal:
- Curing Salt keeps meat for a day (
salt.extend, 1440 minutes). One salt covers 5 pieces (salt.perUse). - Tanning Kit keeps a pelt for good and adds 10% to its price (
tanning.bonus).
