NPC Interaction
Walk up to a person and press E to open the interaction menu. It shows the person's name once you know it, and only the options that make sense right now.
Server owners can switch the prompt off for ambient peds in chosen areas or for chosen ped models, see Blacklisted zones and Blacklisted models.
Dead or dying people can only be interacted with by EMS (to treat them). Police, fire and tow units get no prompt for a body, and an open menu closes if the person dies.

Questioning
The questions you can ask depend on who the person is (suspect, victim, civilian or patient), where you are (on foot or at a car window) and your service:
- What happened here? · What are you doing here? · Where are you heading?
- Do you know why I stopped you? · Can you describe the suspect?
- Have you had anything to drink? · Have you taken any drugs?
- Anything illegal on you or in the car? · Any warrants I should know about?
- Mind if I search you? · Do you want to press charges? · Where does it hurt?
People don't always tell the truth. By default there is a 60% chance they are honest about something that incriminates them, more when they are drunk and less when they are wanted. Check their answers against a breathalyzer, a frisk or a records check.
On investigation callouts, useful answers become leads on the HUD, for example the suspect's look or where they went.
How NPCs react
Every NPC has a record that decides how they behave when you approach:
- Run: 2% base chance, higher when they are wanted or carrying drugs.
- Fight back: 1% base chance, much higher when they are wanted or armed.
- Scenarios can make someone always compliant, always hostile or always run.
Arresting a suspect
- Handcuff them.
- Escort them to your vehicle and Place in vehicle.
- Drive to a jail. A marker shows where to stop.
- Press E at the jail to book them.
Or Request prisoner transport and an AI unit picks them up from you.
Default jails: Mission Row PD, Sandy Shores SO, Paleto Bay SO and Bolingbroke. Add your own in Config.Locations.jails.
Citations
Issue citation opens a form with the fine list from Config.Interaction.citations. Tick the charges, add a note and press Issue citation. The total is worked out for you.
Each person can be cited once. After that the Issue citation option is gone for them, and the citation reward is only paid once per person. Arrests work the same way: one arrest (and one reward) per person.
Records
Every NPC you meet gets a persistent identity: name, date of birth, address, phone, nationality, licences (car, bike, truck, boat, pilot), and flags (wanted, armed, probation, gang). With Kartik MDT, they are created as MDT profiles your officers can search, and wanted NPCs get an active warrant. See The ERS Tablet.
