Jury

The jury pool
Citizens join the jury pool at the courthouse kiosk and get a one-time sign-up bonus. Staff with juryManage summon jurors for a case; a summoned juror has 90 seconds to accept, then checks in at the kiosk. Accepting and never checking in costs a no-show fine.
Selection
Case → Jury tab: the jurors who checked in are the panel, with their service and criminal record count.
- Counsel question them in court.
- Each side uses its peremptory strikes (
Config.Jury.peremptory). - The judge strikes for cause, with a reason.
- The judge swears in the jury, which ends selection.
Struck jurors are excused and still paid (struckArePaid).
Deliberation
When the judge starts deliberation, the jury room door locks and every juror gets the deliberation room: a secret vote and a private chat between the jurors (anonymous, "Juror 3"). The first juror who checked in is the foreperson. Closing the room leaves a reminder; /jury or the jury box opens it again.
Jury verdict in the courtroom calls the jury back, and the foreperson reads the majority out.
Pay
Jurors collect payPerCase at the kiosk after serving, from the DOJ account (or created money with paidBySociety = false).
