Genetics
The Kartik Weed System features a deep genetic inheritance model. Every seed and plant contains a unique genetic signature that dictates its performance and characteristics.
🧬 Understanding Genes
A plant's DNA consists of a string of genes. Each gene type provides a specific bonus or penalty to the plant's stats.
| Gene | Name | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| G | Growth | Increases growth speed by 10% per gene. |
| Y | Yield | Increases harvest quantity. |
| H | Health | Increases resistance to decay and improves recovery speed. |
| W | Water | Penalty: Increases water consumption rate. |
| X | Potency | Increases the quality/potency of the final product. |
[!NOTE] High-performance plants often require more maintenance. A plant with many G genes will grow fast but might also consume water (W) at a higher rate.
🧪 Crossbreeding
Crossbreeding allows players to combine the best traits of different plants to create "Super Strains."
How it Works
- When a plant reaches the Crossbreeding (Stage 4) (75% - 85% growth), it checks for neighboring plants.
- If multiple plants are in the Crossbreeding stage within a close radius, they will exchange genetic information.
- The resulting seeds from these plants will inherit a mix of genes from the "parents."
Gene Inheritance
- The system calculates a weighted average of the genes from the center plant and its neighbors.
- Dominant genes in the area have a higher probability of appearing in the offspring's DNA.
- This allows dedicated growers to "purify" strains over multiple generations, focusing on specific traits like pure X for potency or pure G for speed.
Growth
The lifecycle of a weed plant in this system is divided into 7 distinct stages. Proper care is essential to ensure the plant reaches maturity and produces a high-quality harvest.
Custom Strains
When a player harvests a crossbred plant of Good quality or better with genes nobody has grown before, they can name the strain.
