Report History
Accountability and the Chain of Custody are paramount in forensic work. The Report History system ensures that every interaction with a case file is documented.
🕵️ Audit Logging
Every action taken within a specific case is logged with a permanent, non-editable entry:
- Creation: Who started the case and when.
- Edits: Logs when the narrative or title was modified.
- Status Changes: Tracks the lifecycle of a case (e.g., from
OpentoClosedorPending Court). - Evidence Handling: Records every time an item is linked to or removed from the case locker.
📦 Chain of Custody
For physical evidence, the system tracks the movement of items with legal precision:
- Deposit: When an officer "bags and tags" an item into the digital case locker.
- Withdrawal: When an item is removed for laboratory analysis or court presentation.
- Ownership: The history shows the exact path an item took from the scene to the property room.
🔄 Version Control
If a report narrative is updated as new evidence comes to light, the tablet maintains a background record of previous versions. This allows supervisors to review how an investigator's theories evolved during the course of the probe.
Report Creation
The foundation of any forensic investigation in kartik-evidence is the Crime Scene Report. This digital document serves as the "source of truth" for a specific incident.
Camera
Visual documentation is the most effective way to preserve the state of a crime scene before it is disturbed or cleaned.
