Fingerprint Scanner
The Fingerprint Scanner module allows investigators to identify suspects through physical impressions left on surfaces throughout the game world.
🔍 Finding Latent Prints
Fingerprints are not immediately visible. They are "Latent" (hidden) until an officer performs a search.
- Dusting: Use the Fingerprint Kit on a surface (e.g., a vehicle door, a countertop, or a discarded weapon).
- Surface Viability: Prints can be found on any smooth, non-porous surface.
- Degradation: Over time, or if a surface is "wiped" by a criminal, prints will degrade and eventually disappear.
🧤 Lifting Prints
Once a print is discovered via dusting, it must be "Lifted" to be secured as evidence.
- Lifting Tape: Use the kit's lifting tape to transfer the print to a backing card.
- Physical Item: The lifted print becomes a physical item in your inventory (e.g., "Latent Print #4829").
- Metadata: Each lifted print contains invisible metadata that links it to the original player who touched the surface.
🚔 Field Scanning
In some cases, officers can use a Digital Fingerprint Scanner directly on a detained suspect to get an immediate biometric reading for comparison.
Biometrics
The Biometrics module handles the collection, processing, and matching of biological evidence, moving beyond simple text-based matching to a deep biometric system.
Fingerprint Report
The Fingerprint Report is the final stage of biometric identification, turning a lifted print into a confirmed identity.
