Understanding
Welcome! To make sure you're getting the absolute best out of Kartik-Mechanic, let's take a quick look at how everything works under the hood. We've put together this guide to help clear up some of the most common questions and help you get up and running in no time.
๐ฌ Shop Types: Which one is right for you?
When you're setting up a new shop with /mechcreator, you'll be asked to pick a Shop Type. This is a big decision because it changes exactly how your mechanics (or players) interact with the system.
1. Owned Shops (The Roleplayer's Choice)
If you want a realistic, player-run business where mechanics actually work on cars, this is the one for you.
- The Workflow: When a customer picks a modification, it doesn't just "pop" onto the car. Instead, the mechanic gets a physical receipt (invoice).
- Getting to Work: The mechanic then needs to head over to the car and "use" that receipt. This kicks off the actual installation, complete with menus, cool animations, and those tricky minigames!
- What you need: Remember, you're not a magician! Your mechanic must actually have the parts in their pockets (inventory) to get the job done.
2. Automated Shops (Quick & Easy)
Think of these like your classic "Public Bennys" or unmanned garages where players can just swing by and DIY.
- The Workflow: No waiting around! As soon as a player hits "Buy" in the menu, the mods are applied instantly to the vehicle.
- The Vibe: No receipts, no manual labor, just pure speed and convenience.
๐ It's all about the Items
One thing that makes Kartik-Mechanic stand out is that it's item-centric. We didn't want a script where you just throw money at a screen; we wanted it to feel real.
- Doing Repairs? You'll need to grab some "Basic" or "Advanced" Repair Kits.
- Chasing Performance? You've got to source those specific parts, like a Stage 3 Turbo or a beefy V8 Engine.
- The Logic: The script is smart, it checks your inventory (whether you use OX, QB, or anything else) before it lets you start a job. If you haven't got the parts, you can't do the work!
[!TIP] Pro Tip: Don't forget to add all the new item definitions to your inventory script. You can find everything you need in the
installfolder!
๐ Setting up your Job ID
Think of the Job ID as the secret handshake that connects our script to your server's framework.
- What to type: You need to use the exact internal name of the job (like
mechanic, hayes, orbennys). It's the same name you'd use if you were typing/setjobin your console. - Why it matters: This ID is what makes sure only the right people can access the management menus, see the receipts, and handle the shop's hard-earned cash.
๐ Making sense of Zones (Spatial Protocol)
We know that setting up zones can sometimes feel a bit technical, but it's what makes your shop feel like a real place.
- You need a spot for everything: You can't just work in the middle of the street! You'll need to define a Customs Zone for the menu, a Stash Zone for your parts, and a Billing Zone for the money.
- A little advice: Try to keep your zones organized. If they overlap too much, the UI might get a bit confused about where you're trying to stand!
๐๏ธ No SQL? No Problem! (Auto-Insertion)
We wanted to make installing Kartik-Mechanic as painless as possible, so we built it as a true drag-and-drop experience.
- Where's the SQL file? You won't find one! We've ditched the manual database imports.
- How it works: The very first time you start the script, it's smart enough to scan your database and build all the tables it needs (like
mechanic_shopsandvehicle_mileage) all by itself. - Just one rule: To keep things running smoothly, just make sure your database doesn't already have any tables that start with
mechanic_,vehicle_mileage, orhandling_.
๐ Putting the Dyno to use
The Dyno is a fan-favorite for testing those high-performance builds, but it does have a specific "dance" to get it started:
- Park it right: Drive your car onto the rollers (make sure you're fully inside your Dyno Zone).
- The Handshake: Hop out of the car and use your Target System (that's your "Third-eye") to look at the vehicle.
- Get Connected: Look for the "Connect with Tuning Tablet" option in the menu.
- Feel the Power: Once you're in, you can see real-time HP/Torque stats and really see what your engine is capable of!
