Multiple Departments
MDT Dispatch V2 supports linking multiple virtual departments under a single job code.
Overview
- Allows a player with a single primary framework job (e.g.
police) to be assigned to multiple independent departments (e.g., LSPD, BCSO, SASP). - Officers can switch their active department in the top-right dropdown menu of the MDT interface.
- Permissions, visual themes, logos, rosters, and all records/data (dashboard, dispatch, penal codes, etc.) dynamically shift based on the actively selected department.
Shared vs. Separate Data
Whether two jobs (e.g. LSPD and SASP) share their MDT data or keep it separate depends entirely on how you assign departments to them in /mdt-admin. Each department has its own isolated data, records only live inside the department they were created in.
| Setup | Result |
|---|---|
Both jobs assigned to ONE common department (e.g. Law Enforcement) | ✅ Shared data. LSPD and SASP see the exact same records, dispatch, dashboard, roster, and penal codes. Nothing to switch. |
| Each job assigned to its OWN separate department | 🔒 Separate data. LSPD and SASP each have their own private records. Neither sees the other's data. |
| A job assigned to BOTH its own private department AND the common one | 🔁 Both, but split. The player must use the department dropdown in the /mdt header to switch between them, each department shows only its own data. Nothing is merged into a single view. |
Key idea: Data is never "half-shared." A department is a container; you either put both jobs in the same container (shared) or in different containers (separate). Assigning a job to multiple departments doesn't merge them, it just gives that job the ability to switch between them.
"Why do I have to switch departments to see shared data?"
This is a common point of confusion. The switcher does not appear because data is shared, it appears because the job is a member of multiple departments.
Assigning a job to several departments does not merge their data into one combined feed. Each department stays its own separate container, and the header dropdown simply lets the player open one at a time. So if you gave a job both its own private department and a common one, that player will always have to switch between them.
If your goal is genuinely shared data, you don't want a switcher at all:
- Want shared data (no switching): Assign all the jobs to a single common department and set it as their Primary Department. Everyone sees the same records, and there's nothing to switch.
- Want separate data: Give each job its own department.
- Seeing a switcher you didn't want: That job is assigned to more than one department. Remove the extra department(s) from that job in
/mdt-admin.
In short: you switch because a job belongs to multiple departments, not to "reach" shared data. True sharing means one department for everyone, with nothing to switch.
