Ballistic Report
The Ballistic Report links a specific physical firearm to a crime scene through the unique "fingerprint" every gun leaves on its ammunition.
🎯 Casing & Projectile Matching
Every firearm in kartik-evidence has a unique ballistic signature (stored in the item's metadata).
- Rifling Marks: Projectiles recovered from walls or bodies contain the rifling pattern of the barrel.
- Firing Pin Impressions: Casings recovered from the ground contain the unique strike pattern of the firing pin.
🔬 Microscope Analysis
To generate a report, recovered casings or projectiles must be viewed under the Ballistic Microscope at the forensic lab.
- Comparison: Compare the "Scene Evidence" against a "Test Fire" from a suspected weapon.
- Confirmation: A positive match provides scientific proof that the specific physical gun in your hand fired the shots found at the scene.
📄 The Ballistic Report
- Weapon Model: The type of gun used.
- Serial Number Match: Links the evidence to a specific serial number.
- Owner History: If the serial number is registered, the owner's details are pulled into the report.
- Scraped Status: Notes if the serial number was restored using chemical reagents.
